Remember when those who care for you were helping you prepare for the magic of reading by teaching you to recognize and name the letters of the alphabet? You practiced and practiced, and you were successful. (Good for you!) Then you learned to use those letters by themselves or in different arrangements (words) and you began to read and write. So many letter groupings you commanded as you cast the spell of understanding. (Very good for you!)

You were mastering the powers of speech even before you started conjuring up the friendly spirits of reading and writing. But later, sometimes, you found it hard to clearly put into written words your spoken words. (Oh, dear!) You discovered that the wider your audience of readers, the more rules of writing there were to follow. These rules of language make up the mystical kingdom of grammar.

But just as the good witch helped Dorothy and her friends get through the land of Oz, the Godmother of Grammar will help you get through the grammar kingdom. The road may seem dark and confusing in some places, but usually it can be clear and open.

While Dorothy had her dog Toto to keep her company on her trip , you and I have my dear companion, the playful puppy. Puppy will try help you understand the (not-so-really) mysterious grammar formulas used to concoct powerful, magical, and meaningful writing.

Along the way, we may be whisked off to the lands of puctuation and usage. Those are the special ingredients that will enhance your writing and enchant your readers.

I hope to be able to make your wish of understanding grammar come true.

Fondly,

GMG (Godmother of Grammar)

P.S. My magic wand is not high tech, so I can’t just wave it to make everything appear at once. Please be patient, my friends.
